Please don’t pity us

Please don’t pity us

“Please don’t feel pity for us!” This what the homeless on the streets tell me. “I probably live a better life than you and most people. I live in a big house (train station) where I have free water and access to the toilet whenever I want. I get extra food from kind strangers like yourself. I know facilities where I can take free showers, wash my clothes, get free food and borrow books. And I have so little possessions that I am able to travel freely wherever and whenever I want. I am not tied down by a job, a desk, responsibilities and by societal norms. I have a clean conscience; I don’t steal, kill or harm others. I am my own boss and for me, that is enough.”

You are thinking about it wrong. You are trying to figure out how anyone can be happy with no money to buy things right? Honestly? I believe it’s people like us that can’t be happy because we have to spend all of our money on things. That is the difference. Homeless people can be happy because they don’t need to buy anything. Everything they get is a gift; gifts are a wonderful blessing. They don’t claim nor own anything, they are full of love and wisdom. We can all learn how to love and appreciate the smallest things in life. These people have no worldly possessions, but they are rich at heart and we can all learn a few things from them.
